AI Designs New Viruses to Kill Bacteria
Researchers at Stanford used an AI model called Evo 2 to design almost 300 new phages. These are viruses that target and kill specific bacteria. The team focused on a type called bacteriophage Ξ¦X174.
They grew these sequences in a lab to see how they performed. Out of the group, 16 phages stood out for their ability to fight off E. coli effectively.
This experiment proves that AI can help us create biological tools to fight infections. The team hopes these results will lead to better ways to tackle dangerous bacteria.
