AI helps students get better grades without learning more

Researchers tested AI on over one thousand marketing students. They found that students using GPT-4o improved their grades by nearly a full point on a five point scale. The AI easily handled the tasks that teachers usually grade the highest.

There is a big catch to these results. The study did not check if the students actually understood the lessons. It only looked at the final output of the assignments.

Experts worry that relying on these tools causes long term damage. When students let AI do the heavy lifting, they miss the chance to develop their own critical thinking skills.
