Google Assistant is closing down in 2026

Google announced it will shut down the original Assistant on September 4, 2026. From that day on, Gemini will be the default helper on phones, tablets, and watches. You will see this change across the entire Android ecosystem including cars.
This shift moves the focus toward new AI technology instead of the older voice tools. While Gemini is smarter at writing and coding, it still needs to prove it can handle simple daily tasks just as well. Old users who rely on basic voice commands might find the transition tricky.
Make sure to update your habits before the cutoff date arrives. Google wants everyone on the new system within the next two years. Expect more updates to the interface as the transition date gets closer.
