IBM Releases New Granite 4.2 AI Models

IBM just released its new Granite 4.2 model family. You can choose from three different sizes depending on your hardware needs. These models are free to use and modify under the Apache 2.0 license.
These tools are built to handle very long documents. They can process up to 512,000 tokens at once, which makes them great for summarizing or analyzing massive files. This gives them a significant advantage when you need to look at a lot of data quickly.
The larger versions also feature built-in agentic skills. This means they can learn to use software tools and execute code on their own. It is a big step forward for models that can act as helpful assistants.
