New AI reads medical slides like a doctor

Paige and Microsoft created a model called PRISM2 that looks at large tissue slides to help with diagnosis. Instead of just looking at pictures, it also reads the reports written by pathologists. It learns how these notes connect to what is seen in the tissue samples.

The system breaks down thousands of tiny sections from a slide to create a complete picture. It uses this information to answer specific questions about a patient's health. This allows the tool to explain findings instead of just pointing out shapes.

They trained the model using over two million slides and matching reports. This gives the software a deep understanding of medical language and visual data. It could eventually become a helpful partner for doctors reviewing complex cases.
