People actually prefer AI stories until they find out

Researchers asked over 2500 people to read short stories and guess if a human or a computer wrote them. Most people could not tell the difference at all. In fact, many participants gave higher marks to the work produced by AI.

However, these ratings took a sharp turn once the readers learned the origin of the text. As soon as people knew an AI was behind the story, they gave it lower scores. The quality of the writing stayed the same but their opinion changed instantly.

This shows that our bias against machines is very real. We often judge a piece of work based on who made it rather than how it actually feels to read. Even when we enjoy a story, we hold it to a different standard if we know a person did not write it.
